Frequently Asked Questions

What is an economic indicators dashboard?+
An economic indicators dashboard is an interactive tool that aggregates live economic and market data into a single interface for analysis. The Convex dashboard tracks 583+ indicators spanning Treasury yields, inflation measures (CPI, PCE), labor market data, credit spreads, commodities, currencies, and sentiment gauges, all updated daily from sources including the Federal Reserve (FRED), EIA, CFTC, and live market feeds. Users can chart up to 10 indicators simultaneously on one plot, making it easier to spot correlations, divergences, and regime shifts across the macro landscape.
What economic indicators signal recession risk?+
The most reliable recession signals include yield curve inversions (the 10-year minus 2-year Treasury spread), the Sahm Rule (rising unemployment rate), initial jobless claims momentum, widening high-yield credit spreads, and declining leading economic indicators (Conference Board LEI). The Convex Recession Probability Index (CRPI) combines all five of these signals into a single 0-100 composite reading. A CRPI above 60 means the majority of recession transmission mechanisms are flashing warning simultaneously.
How often is the economic data updated?+
Update frequency depends on the data source. Stock and crypto prices update in real time. Federal Reserve data (FRED) updates daily. Weekly releases include initial jobless claims and EIA energy data. Monthly releases include CPI, PCE, nonfarm payrolls, and ISM PMI. GDP is released quarterly. The Convex dashboard fetches the latest available data point for each indicator and shows when it was last updated.
What are the most important macroeconomic indicators?+
The six most widely watched macroeconomic indicators are the 10-Year Treasury Yield (the global risk-free benchmark), CPI Inflation Rate (what consumers pay), the Federal Funds Rate (the cost of money), the S&P 500 (equity market health), the VIX (implied volatility and fear), and the Unemployment Rate (labor market strength). Beyond these, professional traders also monitor credit spreads, the yield curve shape, net liquidity, and leading economic indicators for early regime-shift signals.
How do I use the Convex Indicators Dashboard?+
Search for any indicator by name, ticker, or FRED series ID using the search bar. Click an indicator to view it on the chart, or press the + button to overlay it with existing indicators (up to 10 on one plot). Use the category browser on the left to explore indicators by theme. Toggle between percent-change mode for apples-to-apples comparison and raw mode for absolute values. Start with the four Convex Intelligence Indices (CRPI, CNLI, CRAI, NVI) for a quick macro snapshot, then add individual indicators to investigate specific trends.
