Apple (AAPL)

AAPL is Apple Inc., the largest-by-market-cap public company in the world for most of 2018-2026 with periodic crossovers with NVDA and MSFT. Apple generates approximately 50% of revenue from iPhone, 25% from Services, and the remainder from Mac, iPad, and Wearables. The company holds over $160 billion in net cash and has returned more cash to shareholders via buybacks than any company in history.

Why it matters: AAPL is roughly 7% of the S&P 500 and 10%+ of the Nasdaq-100, so its earnings cycle drives index returns mechanically. It is also the benchmark for global consumer-tech demand because the iPhone is sold in roughly 175 countries with relatively price-inelastic demand in the high-end tier. Services revenue (App Store, iCloud, Apple TV+) carries 70%+ gross margins and is the multiple-driver for the stock, hardware revenue is closer to a low-30s margin.

In April 2026 AAPL trades near all-time highs alongside the broader Magnificent Seven complex. The fiscal-2025 print (calendar 2024) showed iPhone unit growth modest, Services growing low-teens, and gross margin expanding on Services mix. The AI strategy (Apple Intelligence rollout, on-device LLM via M-series silicon) is the multiple question, the bull case is monetization through Search-default deals and App Store; the bear case is that Apple is a fast-follower in AI rather than a category leader.

China is the single largest variable. Greater China revenue ran $66 billion in fiscal 2024, growth has decelerated, and Trump tariffs introduced 2025-2026 affect the iPhone supply chain meaningfully despite India production migration. Watch the China revenue line in quarterly prints; a sustained re-acceleration is the bull catalyst, a sustained decline is the multiple-compression risk.

AAPL has compounded approximately 25% annualized since 2003, the strongest large-cap return profile in history at this scale. Major drawdowns: -82% in the dot-com bust (1999-2003), -40% in 2018 (China deceleration scare), -29% in 2022 (rate shock), and -10-15% routine corrections. The three drivers are iPhone unit cycle, Services growth rate, and Greater China revenue trajectory. Buybacks compress share count by roughly 3% annually, mechanically supporting EPS growth.

First, quarterly iPhone unit growth and Greater China revenue. Both have lower seasonality than Services but higher swing factor on the multiple.

Second, Services revenue growth. Sustained 10%+ growth supports a 30x+ forward P/E; deceleration to single digits compresses to 22x-24x range.

Third, the Apple Intelligence monetization signal. Search-default deal economics with Google, App Store AI fees, and on-device LLM revenue capture, all are nascent but determine whether AAPL is an AI winner or a price-taker.
